The ceremony took place on October 1, 2018 in the Main Building of the University of Warsaw
The inauguration was attended by numerous guests, including: rectors and vice-rectors of universities from all over Poland, representatives of ministries, professional self-governments, industry and business, ambassadors, as well as people associated with the Warsaw Polytechnic, including employees and students of the Warsaw University of Technology.
All guests at the walls of the Warsaw University of Technology welcomed prof. dr hab. Eng. Jan Szmidt, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology. In his speech, he paid particular attention to the significance of the beginning of the academic year. - The Constitution for Science enters into force today. The historical walls of the Large Hall of the Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology are, once again, a witness of events memorable for many generations - says the Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology. - 2018 is also a special time, because next month we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence.
Participants of the meeting listened to, read by the Vice-Rector for Science, prof. Rajmund Bacewicz, a letter from the President of the Republic of Poland.
The Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education - Piotr Müller also addressed the participants of the event. In his speech, he focused on new regulations on higher education. He also informed that for investment purposes, construction of new laboratories and retrofitting of research equipment, the Warsaw University of Technology will receive PLN 50 million next year.
The inauguration of the academic year is a special day, especially for those students who start their academic education this year. Newly admitted students (representatives of all departments) made a solemn vows and collected their commemorative diplomas from the Rector's hands.
During the event, the Rector also handed doctoral appointments to newly appointed doctors.
During the inauguration, the speech was also given by: the Chairman of the Students 'Self-Government - Konrad Krawczyk and the Chairman of the Doctoral Students' Council - Maciej Kachniarz. Both talked about the essence of education and the importance of the beginning of the academic year, during which we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of regaining Poland's independence.
The university event ended with the inaugural lecture of prof. Andrzej Eliasz, who focused in his speech on the analysis of social factors that influence innovative economies, including highlighting the role of cooperation between various scientific fields.
The day before the ceremonial inauguration, September 30 at 20.30 in the Church of the Holy Savior, at pl. Zbawiciela in Warsaw, Mass was held. inaugurating the academic year 2018/2019.
The Faculty celebrations were initiated on 28 September by two polytechnic faculties: Chemical and Geodesy and Cartography.
Wishes on the occasion of the inauguration of the academic year were sent, among others The President of the Republic of Poland, the Speaker of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, the Vice-President of the European Parliament or the Rectors of Polish universities.
